Understanding the account deletion options
There are two options for handling bank accounts that have been closed at the bank and are no longer active, or bank accounts that you no longer require to be connected to Neon.
- Delete account: All transactions, balance data and categorisation will be permanently deleted from Money Dashboard Neon. It will not be possible to recover this data. If the account is still open at the bank you can re-add it,
- Mark as closed (recommended): This is best for accounts that are now closed at the bank, but where you still want to keep the transaction history. Setting it to a Closed status will stop the selected account from continuing to refresh and the balance will be set to £0. Your historical transactions and categorisation data will be kept, and will still appear in the reporting.
Deleting a connected bank account
Web Application:
1. Go to 'Accounts' from the side navigational bar
2. Click onto the account you wish to delete
3. Select the 'Delete account' option located in the details side bar on the right hand side
4. Follow the confirmation prompt
Mobile Application:
1. Go to 'Accounts' from the bottom navigational bar
2. Tap onto the account you wish to delete
3. Tap on the vertical 3 dots icon (options) at the top right hand corner
4. Select 'Delete account' and follow the prompts
Closing a connected bank account
If there is a balance other than £0 still showing on the account, then in order to take the balance to zero a dummy transaction 'closing balance transfer' will be inserted for the inverse amount of the remaining balance.
Please note that the closing balance transfer date will default to today's date. You can select an earlier date if you wish, but please ensure you don't select a date earlier than the last imported transaction on that account - doing this might cause plotting errors in your future analytics.
Web Application:
1. Go to 'Accounts' from the side navigational bar
2. Tap onto the account you wish to close
3. Select the 'Mark as closed' option located in the details side bar on the right hand side
4. Select 'Close account' and enter a closing date.
Mobile Application:
1. Go to 'Accounts' from the bottom navigational bar
2. Tap onto the account you wish to close
3. Tap on the vertical 3 dots icon (options) at the top right hand corner
4. Select 'Close account' and enter a closing date
Restoring a Closed account
If the account is still open at the bank, or you have accidentally set the wrong account to a Closed status, then unlike deleting accounts there is the option to undo this and restore the account to an active status. This will also remove any Closing Balance Transfer transaction that was inserted.
Web & Mobile:
1. Go to Accounts and open the list of Closed accounts
2. Click/Tap on the account you want to restore
3. Click/Tap on the Mark as open button
4. This will restore it to the main accounts list with the balance it had prior to closure.
However, please note that in order for it to refresh again you will need to reauthenticate.
